Man Out $200,000 In Facebook Scam

By Karla James Aug 10, 2022 | 12:46 PM

A 56 year old Lincoln man called police at 7 Tuesday evening to report a fraud.

The man told police that he had struck up a friendship with a woman on Facebook in February of 2020. During their conversations, the woman asked the man to send cell phones to her in Nigeria.

As the conversations continued, the woman said she was going to visit the victim and bring him $14 million in gold but there were a number of fees involved in the transfer of that money.

Police then learned that over the last 2 1/2 years, the victim had sent between $150,000 and $200,000 to the suspect in the form of gift cards and Bitcoin.

The victim had done a reverse image search of the woman he believed he was talking to and she turned out to be a pornography actress.

The investigation continues.
