1,144 Pounds Of Pot Found During I-80 Traffic Stop

A Missouri man is facing charges after at traffic stop at mm 392 eastbound on I-80 Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

Sheriff Terry Wagner a deputy spotted a moving truck following another vehicle too closely and for crossing the line. He says, “As the deputy approached the vehicle, there was a strong odor of marijuana coming form the truck itself. The driver and one occupant were contacted. A probable cause search of the vehicle turned up 1,144 pounds of high grade marijuana in one pound vacuumed sealed bags in the cargo area of that truck.”

Wagner says the marijuana was “black or gray market” and was being taken from California to Illinois, both legal states. There was not a drug tax stamp associated with the marijuana.

Forty-three year old Daniel Cardinel was jailed for possession with intent to deliver and for not having a drug tax stamp. The passenger was not charged.

The marijuana has a street value of approximately $2 million.
