An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday for 42 year old Benjamin Case, the man who was shot and killed while on his boat at Branched Oak Lake Tuesday night.
Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says the investigation into the homicide is ongoing. They continue to examine evidence and there are no suspects at this time.
LSO reports that there were four others with Case in the cuddy cabin of the boat Tuesday night when they noticed that someone was walking on the boat. Case opened the door and was shot twice. There was a struggle but the other four escaped injury by jumping into the water. The suspect then left the area in a maroon vehicle.
A GoFundMe supporting Case’s family has been established. Ashley Lamoureux is organizing the fundraiser and says Benjamin was always willing to lend a helping hand. She adds that Benjamin loved his family, especially his 18 year old daughter Payton.
“Payton just graduated and turned 18. She was looking forward to spending extra time with her dad before starting school in the fall,” Lamoureux said. “We all knew Ben as a carefree, fun, and caring soul”.
