Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division conducted surprise truck inspections Wednesday on the north side of Lincoln.  During the special enforcement effort, 35 vehicle inspections were conducted.

NSP spokesman Cody Thomas says troopers presented a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance sticker to 23 vehicles throughout the day, indicating the vehicle had no critical safety violations. “Not only did the driver do a pre-inspection, but the company that owns the truck is doing a good job maintaining that truck.”

Troopers also discovered 105 safety violations and took 12 vehicles out of service.  They won’t be allowed to return to the road until repairs are made. Vehicles are placed out of service for a variety of reasons relating to bad brakes or tires, or other problems that pose immediate safety risks.

The surprise inspections focus on commercial vehicles that might not travel outside the city or pass-through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.
