After Sunday’s Uncle Sam Jam at Oak Lake Park Lincoln Fire and Rescue will hold a fireworks amnesty day.   “Anyone who wants to get rid of something they’ve had in their basement for years and years or rather they don’t want to store it for the next Fourth of July we’ll take it and dispose of it properly,” says Chief Fire Inspector Bill Moody.

He says legal or illegal fireworks and ammunition can be dropped off at Oak Lake Park with no questions asked from 9 a.m. to noon.   Volunteers will also be gathering that day to help clean up fireworks debris and other trash from the park.

The cleanup runs from 10 am to 1 p.m. and volunteers will meet under the open park shelter on the east side of Oak Lake Park.  “We have gloves and trash bags and they don’t even have to carry the trash bags very far,” says Erin Kubicek, Environmental Health Educator for the City of Lincoln.  She says volunteers can just show up on Tuesday.

She says lunch will be provided to volunteers.
