A Lincoln City Council member has been cited for DUI and negligent driving after a one vehicle crash around Tuesday night in a Capitol Beach neighborhood.
LPD was called to the 2000 block of Surfside Drive around 9:40 p.m. When officers arrived, they found that a grey 2009 Toyota Corolla was involved in a crash. Police say the vehicle was driven by 63-year-old Tammy Ward. The car had been eastbound on Surfside Drive when it struck a parked vehicle, left the roadway and collided with a tree.
Ward was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. During the investigation officers discovered evidence of alcohol use and a blood draw was subsequently conducted. Results are pending. Ward has been cited for DUI and Negligent Driving.
A statement from the City Council was released Thursday afternoon. “The Lincoln City Council is aware of Councilwoman Ward’s accident on Tuesday night. Our primary concern at this time is her health and well-being. We wish our colleague and friend well as she recovers.”
Ward has represented District 4 since 2019.
