Lincoln Police arrested a 24 year old man after a dispute between two groups collecting petition signatures late Tuesday morning. LPD Captain Todd Kocian says officers were called to the Dollar Tree near 27th and Folkways Blvd around 11:30 a.m. by a man who reported he was being chased by a man with a knife.
Kocian says the victim had been in front of the store gathering signatures for a petition when another group arrived to also gather signatures. “A brief argument ensued, and the victim chose to walk away. As he started to walk away, he was followed by 24-year-old Nicolas Salas who was threatening to assault him.”
Kocian says Salas then displayed a knife and began swinging it at the victim who ran back to the store and called police. A short time later officers tracked Salas down at a nearby hotel and took him into custody.
A 9-inch knife with a 3.5 inch blade was recovered. Salas was arrested for terroristic threats and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. No injuries were reported. Kocian says it’s no clear what petition either group was gathering signatures for.
