The Lincoln Police Department reports there has been a year to date 59.8% increase in the number of auto thefts compared to the five year average.

During June, auto thefts have increased 65.4% compared to the same time frame in 2021
June statistics show:
29.5% were unlocked with the keys inside
25% were locked
5% were unlocked with the keys inside and running
40.5% were listed as other
77.3% are active investigations
50% of the vehicles taken have been recovered.
Vehicle thefts in Lincoln have more than doubled in the in the last five years.
There were 357 vehicles reported stolen in 2017
408 vehicles were stolen in 2018
432 vehicles were stolen in 2019
593 vehicles were stolen in 2020
692 vehicles were reported stolen in 2021.
