Lincoln Fire & Rescue Recruits To Participate In Live Burn

By Tom Stanton Jun 8, 2022 | 1:58 PM

Lincoln Fire & Rescue recruits will put all of their skills to work during a live training burn on Thursday, June 9th at the LF&R Training Center at 3rd and South.

“This is a class of five women and eight men that will be finishing the fire portion of their academy training on June 17th,” says LFR’s Nancy Crist.  She says the live burn experience will prepare the recruits for a real-life scenario.  They have a facility at the training center where they can continually light fires and create all the different types of experiences of a structure fire.

“Each recruit will go through an evolution and then they’ll  stop, come out, everything will be reset, the hose will be reloaded and the fire will be started again.”

She says the fire scenario will be started 13 times using plywood and hay bales.   The 13 recruits comprised of nine EMTs and four paramedics will then spend six weeks in the Emergency Medical Services portion of their training before going out to fire rigs across the city to continue their training.
