Nebraska football could soon have another member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Former Husker head coach Frank Solich is among nine FBS coaches to be named to the 2023 ballot Monday morning by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

This is the first year of eligibility for Solich after his retirement in 2021. He spent his final 16 seasons at Ohio University after six years leading NU.

During his 22 years as a head coach, Solich compiled record of 173-101, including 58-19 for the Big Red.

During his time in Lincoln, Solich led the Huskers to the 1999 Big 12 Conference championship. His 2001 team won a co-Big 12 North Division title and met Miami in the Rose Bowl for the BCS national championship.

Before becoming a head coach, Solich played fullback for Bob Devaney in the 1960s. He then went on to coached high school football before retuning to NU as an assistant in in 1979.

The 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be announced early next year.
