Lincoln Salvation Army celebrates

National Donut Day 2022

“Fun for the whole family.”

Lincoln, NE (May 11, 2022) – The Lincoln Salvation Army has partnered with B&R Stores (Russ’s Market), LaMar’s Donuts Krispy Kreme, and The Rabbit Hole Bakery and other local bakeries to promote to celebrate National Donut Day 2022, the work of The Salvation Army, and encourage donations to support their work in the Lincoln community on Friday, June 3rd, 2022.

National Donut Day, a day first established by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938, was established to commemorate The Salvation Army’s “Donut Lassies” who served the donuts to American soldiers on the front lines during World War 1. The Salvation Army Donut Lassies are often credited with popularizing the sweet treat in the United States when the troops returned home from war.

Our retail partners will be accepting monetary donations in the friendly red kettle placed on the counters along with special offerings to celebrate.  The public is asked to share a pictures to their social media profiles using #GivingIsSweet.

Participating locations include: Lamar’s Donuts, 1601 Q Street and 4822 Pioneers Boulevard in Lincoln (business hours) and Russ’s Market locations, 1709 Washington Street, 130 N. 66th Street, 1550 S. Coddington Ave., 6300 Havelock Ave., and 4400 S. 33rd Ct.
