24 Year Old Man Arrested After Lincoln Standoff

By Tom Stanton Jun 3, 2022 | 12:24 PM

A more than three hour standoff Thursday afternoon near 13th and D Street in Lincoln ended in the arrest of a 24 year old man. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Captain John Vik says Jesse Salamanca was wanted for firing shots into a house near Highway 34 and Northwest 27th Street last Saturday.

“Initial attempts to contact Mr. Salamanca were unsuccessful, but he was known to be inside the residence so a tactical response unit was deployed and Mr. Salamanca continued to be barricaded inside the residence,”  Vik says.

The standoff began around 2:15 p.m. and ended just after 5:30.  Vik says with the help of Lincoln Police, Nebraska State Patrol and US Marshals Service they made entry into the house and found Salamanca hiding in the basement.  A handgun believed to be used in the shooting was found in the home.

Vik says that house is not Salamanca’s primary residence but he was known to stay there.  He was arrested for unlawful discharge of a firearm into an occupied dewelling, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, terroristic threats and possession of methamphetamine.

Vik says they believe Salamanca is the only one who fired shots at the house, but they are looking for one other suspect.
