Save the Pershing Mural Fund Raising Push

By Mark Vail May 23, 2022 | 11:48 AM

An effort to save the Pershing Mural is needing significant donations in the final days of the time allotted by the City of Lincoln for organizers to raise $1 million to start the project.

Liz Shea-McCoy with the Nebraska Arts Council has been spearheading the effort which hope to raise enough money by June 1, 2022, to start the tedious task of dismantling the mural prior to the scheduled razing of the Pershing building this fall.

Shea-McCoy told KLIN News Monday the group is hopeful that during Give To Lincoln this week individuals, businesses and other organizations that might be considering donating to save the mural will step forward.  Donations made during Give To Lincoln can receive a pro-rated portion of the Lincoln Community Foundation’s matching funds.

Organizers are working with the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation to act as the repository for the tax-deductible donations.  Shea-McCoy reported the group still needs about $389,000 to reach the initial $1 million to start the project.
