Nebraska softball didn’t waste any time notching their first win of the Stillwater Regional.
The Huskers improved to 41-14 on the year with a 3-0 regional-opening victory over North Texas. NU will play No. 7 Oklahoma State Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The Cowgirls beat Fordham 12-0 in five innings in their opening game.
Nebraska got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first inning.
After a Billie Andrews walk and Cam Ybarra single, Sydney Gray poked the ball to the shortstop, who committed a throwing error. That allowed Andrews to score. On the next at bat, Mya Felder grounded out but plated Ybarra.
In the fourth inning, Peyton Glatter drilled a double to center. Glatter then scored on a Kaylin Kinney single down the left field line.
Olivia Ferrell earned the win for her 5.1 innings of spotless work in the circle. Ferrell allowed two hits, walking a pair and striking out six. She also moved past 400 career strikeouts.
Courtney Wallace relieved Ferrell in the sixth inning. She completed the shutout and earned the save by not allowing a hit and retiring the final four batters.
North Texas had set several program records over the course of the season for offense. The Mean Green had not scored less than six runs in their previous five games.
The win is the first for Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament since 2016, which was the last appearance in regionals for NU.
