Nebraska Softball Beats Penn State 3-1; Advances to Big Ten Semifinals

By Kaleb Henry May 12, 2022 | 12:08 PM

Nebraska softball is moving on.

The Huskers improved to 34-18 on a come from behind 3-1 victory over Penn State Thursday at the Big Ten Conference tournament. NU will play in the semifinals in East Lansing Friday at 1 p.m. CT.

Penn State grabbed an early lead with an RBI groundout in the second inning.

The Husker bats were quiet for much of the game, due to facing one of the best pitchers in the league. Bailey Parshall entered the day with over 200 innings pitched on the year, including all eight in the extra inning victory over Indiana Wednesday.

But the third time through the NU order, the No. 2 seed figured her out.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kaylin Kinney got on base after being hit by a pitch. Big Ten Freshman of the Year Ava Bredwell was then called on to pinch hit, where she tacked on a single.

That’s when Billie Andrews stuck a two-run double to put the Huskers out front.

Andrews then scored after Syd Gray knocked a single up the middle, giving Nebraska more than enough to take the victory.

Courtney Wallace got the start in the circle. Over her 7.0 innings of work, the senior captain allowed just one run on three hits.

Nebraska will take on the winner of Illinois and Ohio State next. That game will air on the Huskers Radio Network, including 1400 AM and 99.3 FM KLIN in Lincoln. Pregame is set 12:50 p.m. CT, with first pitch at 1.
