Risk Dial Raised As COVID-19 Cases Increase

By Tom Stanton May 10, 2022 | 4:18 PM

Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Director Pat Lopez says there has been five consecutive weeks of increased COVID-19 cases and that has caused the Risk Dial to move from the green back into the yellow range.

Yellow indicates there is a moderate risk of spread of the virus in the community.  “Omicron subvariants are driving increases in cases across the country and we’re now seeing an increase in cases locally,” Lopez says.

Lopez says there are no directed health measurers planned for now.  “COVID-19 is still here, and cases are once again starting to increase locally. Our actions have helped shaped the course of the pandemic, and they continue to do so. Please consider your own person risks, and the actions you can take to minimize that risk.”

New cases dropped to 62 the week ending April 2, but numbers were up to 197 the week ending April 30 and up again to 301 the week ending May 7.

Lopez says they don’t know if this uptick will lead to a larger surge.  “We’ll be monitoring the situation closely, and it’s impact on our community.  If we continue to see significant changes, we’ll be back with another briefing to help keep everyone informed.”
