Lincoln Police say Saturday’s gun amnesty day was a success.  Over a two hour period Lincoln residents pulled up in the parking lot at 5201 R Street and dropped off weapons and ammunition with no questions asked.

A total of 73 guns were turned in.  LPD says 58 firearms, including rifles, shotguns and handguns were turned in along with 15 pellet guns.    Tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition, including a couple canisters of gunpowder and fireworks was also collected.

LPD says miscellaneous weapons, including 2 military grade knives were also dropped off.  HOPELNK distributed 40 free gun lock boxes and over 100 gun cable locks.
