Lincoln Police are investigating after items were stolen from four vehicles across the city on Wednesday.  “In each case the vehicle was unsecured with either the windows or doors open,” says Captain Todd Kocian.  “The contents lost ranged from a pack of gum to a wallet, purse, and laptop computer.”

Kocian says these are crimes of opportunity and it only takes a few seconds to open an unlocked vehicle and remove the contents.  All four of the thefts happened in residential areas, but with warmer weather on the way,  he says more people will be visiting parks and trails and it can be easy to leave windows rolled down.

He says always lock and secure your vehicle when leaving it unattended,  do not leave valuables in the passenger compartment and put your valuables in the trunk and lock your vehicle or take them with you.

Kocian also says never leave the keys, a spare key or key fab in the vehicle.
