There’s more pain at the pump for Nebraska drivers. Prices rose again over the past week due primarily to the high cost of crude oil and it’s only going to get worse. “The statewide average currently stands at $3.94 cents, that’s up about five cents in the past week,” says Gene LaDoucer with AAA Nebraska.
He says supplies across the country are falling below five year averages. “Which means that supplies are tight and as a result we expect prices to move higher as we approach the busy summer driving season when demand increases significantly.”
He says between now and Memorial Day drivers could be paying another 10-15 cents per gallon, which could set a record in Nebraska. That record of $4.10 cents a gallon was set in July of 2008.
LaDoucer says despite the high gas prices, demand for gas remains strong due to pent-up demand to hit the road coming out of the pandemic.
