Lincoln Police will hold a gun amnesty day on Saturday.  Residents will have a chance to get rid of unwanted and illegal guns, ammunition and explosives with no questions asked.

“There’s a lot of people who just want to get rid of guns and don’t know how to do that,” says Officer Melissa Ripley.  “They don’t necessarily want to sell them and so this a way for them to get of them, get them out of your house, get rid of ammo that’s been laying around for 50 years.”

It will run from 10 a.m. to noon in a parking lot on the north side of 52nd and R Street.   “We ask that people bring them in the rear part of their vehicle and we will be handling them for safety reasons.”   Drivers are asked to enter the parking lot on 52nd Street and exit on R Street.

She says they have averaged 60 guns from the annual event.  Stolen guns will be returned to their owners and the rest will be destroyed.   Hope LNK will be there to provide free trigger guards and handgun lock boxes will be handed out while supplies last.
