A Lincoln tradition continues this Saturday. The 34th annual Haymarket Farmers Market will open at 8 a.m.

Haymarket Development Corporation Executive Director Jeff Cunningham tells KLIN News, “We will have arts, crafts, produce, ready to go food. It is a great Saturday morning gathering for people. This is our 34th year.”

Cunningham says they are relieved to be operating normally this year. He says they had to make a number of changes in 2020 when the pandemic started. They reduced the number of booths available in order to provide adequate spacing. He says, “Last year, a lot of our folks didn’t come back due to the COVID situation but I’ve seen a big uptick in returning vendors from two years ago. We are excited about that.”

Those wanting to stock up on produce right away may be a bit disappointed. He says it has been a colder season so produce is running a bit late. They have about 130 stalls they rent out weekly. Some of the vendors are there every week while others do a “day vendor status” and set up shop on and off throughout the season.

On an average day, visitors will be treated to food items ranging from pies, breads, baklava, root beer, coffee, teas, seasoning mixes, nuts, to wine and more. At the height of the season, radishes, lettuce, beans, tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries to cheese, buffalo, beef and eggs are available. Non-food items include furniture, artwork, baskets, hand sewn items, bird houses, welded iron, wind chimes and more.

The Haymarket Farmers Market opens at 8 a.m. and runs until noon every Saturday through October 15th.
