The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is asking for the public’s help in finding whoever shot a nesting female American Bald Eagle near Garland over the weekend.

“We had a passerby notice the eagle in close proximity to the road,” says Stacey Lewton with the Game and Parks Criminal Division. “One of out officers was dispatched out and found it, obviously injured.   The officer took it to get examined.”

Lewton says the eagle eventually died from it’s injuries. “Some state laws have been violated because of this act and it’s also a violation of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act  by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife  Service.  Lewton says anyone with information is asked to give them a call.

“We have a wildlife CrimeStopper hotline and callers can remain completely anonymous and may be eligible for a reward if it  leads to an arrest.”  That number is 1-800-742-7627.
