LPD will conduct its annual “End of School” traffic enforcement project from May 2nd to May 25th.
The project is funded through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation that allows extra emphasis in and around school zones in Lincoln. It will focus on traffic and pedestrian safety.
Officers will be watching for violations that include speeding through school zones, driving past the school bus warning devices, and not wearing seat belts. There will be strict enforcement will focus around the flashing yellow school zones. Fines over $600 could be issued for those speeding through school zones during the special enforcement.
Drivers are also reminded to be aware of the flashing yellow lights and obey speed limits around elementary schools.
