Lincoln Firefighters battled a two alarm fire Monday afternoon at Green Quest Recycling near 4th and J Street. “This recycling center is a center that other businesses bring their recycles to,” says LFR’s Nancy Crist. “They sort it, bundle it and then they send it out.”
She says large piles of paper ignited and the fire produced heavy smoke in the area. The fire was outside the building and all of the employees are safe.
Crist says firefighters attacked the fire from the ground and from two aerial trucks. She says there was a lack of access to water in the area and firefighters had to stretch out hundreds of feet of hose to reach fire hydrants.
