To help keep drug-impaired drivers off the roads, the Lincoln Police Department is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to spread the message that drug-impaired driving of any kind is dangerous and illegal.

The enforcement effort will be conducted through April 24.   In 2020, 13% of drivers involved in crash fatalities in Nebraska tested positive for at least one drug. The Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office is providing funding for increased enforcement during the campaign.

LPD says if you are impaired, do not drive and find another way home. Use a taxi, shared ride service or call a friend or family member. Passengers are urged to never ride with an impaired driver.  If you think a driver may be under the influence, don’t get in the car.

If someone you know has been using drugs or alcohol do not let them get behind the wheel. If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement.  LPD says taking these actions could save your life or someone else’s.
