The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a string of mail theft. Sheriff Terry Wagner says a homeowner living on Olive Creek Road southeast of Bennet found a large amount of mail scattered in a ditch near a housing development.
Deputies collected the mail and determined there were roughly 16 cases of mail theft that likely happened sometime Saturday into Sunday.
Investigators are working to contact the victims. One victim stated he had written a check to the village of Bennet for several hundred dollars. The envelope was found but the check was missing. Most of the cases were from the southeast part of the county to Yankee Hill Road. There were also victims from Hickman.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 402-441-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
