The Nebraska State Patrol wrapped up a week long special enforcement and educational event that focused on distracted driving.
The U Drive. U Text. U Pay initiative was part of a nationwide effort during Distracted Driving awareness month.
“April is set aside to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, but our troopers’ educational efforts continue year-round,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “We urge all drivers to make safety their priority, eliminate distractions, and keep their focus on the road.”
The enforcement ran from April 4th through April 10th. Troopers arrested:
19 motorists for driving under the influence
292 citations for speeding
11 for no seat belt use,
5 for improper child restraint.
16 for having an open container of alcohol
6 for minor in possession of alcohol
29 for driving under suspension
26 for No proof of insurance
1 for use of a cell phone.
NSP troopers also provided assistance to 312 motorists throughout the week.
A $14,160 grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office paid for the extra enforcement. Nebraska DOT also offers resources to educate young drivers on the dangers of distracted drivers. Click here for more details.
