A staff person and two inmates from the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln were involved in a two-vehicle crash around 11:45 Monday night at 11th and L Street. LPD says officers arrived and discovered a transport van had been westbound on L Street and collided with a Honda Accord that had run a red light on 11th Street.
“The three occupants in the van were extricated from the vehicle by LFR and transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries,” says LPD Captain Todd Kocian. The driver of the Honda Accord, later identified as 33-year-old Robinson Juarez, had fled the scene on foot following the collision. “Approximately four hours later Juarez called police to report he had been in an accident but did not recall it.”
Juarez was ultimately arrested for Leaving the Scene of Injury Accident, DUI, No Insurance and Violating an Automatic Traffic Signal. A Department of Corrections official says the van driver and one of the two inmates injured remain hospitalized. The staff member had just picked up two inmates from their place of employment and was driving back to the facility when the crash happened.
