The Nebraska Democratic Party is getting ready to select a candidate for the 1st Congressional District special election. Party officials say their Executive Committee will meet Monday night in closed session to pick a nominee. That nominee will be announced on Tuesday.
The special election was called after Republican Jeff Fortenberry resigned following his felony convictions for lying to the FBI about illegal campaign donations. The winner of the special election will serve out the rest of Fortenberry’s term, which ends in January, 2023.
Candidates for the special election have to be named by April 22. The special election will be held June 28.
