The Nebraska State Patrol made three arrests in two cases where a suspect fought with a trooper over the weekend.

At 7:20 p.m. Saturday, a trooper saw a Chevrolet Impala fail to stop as it exited I-80 and then headed north on Highway 2. The trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop but the driver refused and took off. The trooper followed in a pursuit. The Impala turned westbound onto a county road where the driver lost control and went into a ditch. Two occupants then got out and ran.

The trooper was able to catch the driver quickly but then started fighting the trooper. After a struggle, the trooper gained control and the driver was taken into custody. During that struggle, the passenger returned to the vehicle, took a backpack, and took off running. The passenger was found a short time later and was taken into custody without further incident.

Troopers found unknown pills, marijuana, a knife, and drug paraphernalia inside the backpack.

The driver, 23 year old Dylan Valdez of Ashland and passenger, 31 year old Logan Korb of Omaha were both booked into the Hamilton County Jail for a number of infractions.

The next incident took place at 4:30 p.m. Sunday when a trooper saw a Honda Accord driving in reverse on 13th Street near I-80 in Omaha. The trooper conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot and smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver, 24 year old Alec Cowan of Omaha started physically fighting with the trooper and tried to run. Another trooper arrived and Cowan was taken into custody. Inside the vehicle, troopers found two pounds of marijuana, THC edibles, and drug paraphernalia.

Cowan was booked for assault on an officer, obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, no operator license, and other charges. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail.
