The state of Nebraska is joining an effort to help the people of Ukraine. Governor Pete Ricketts announced on Wednesday that hundreds of pieces of protective gear from law enforcement agencies across the state are being sent to help the people of Ukraine in their fight against Russia.

“We’ve been able to collect 550 pieces of protective equipment, including 321 body armor vests and 69 helmets,” Ricketts says.  “We worked with Iowa to pool it with theirs and load it on a plane.”

Ricketts says the US warranty on all of the gear has expired and can’t be used any longer. But he says they will stop shrapnel and bullets and will be a great help to the fighters in Ukraine.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the gear being sent would otherwise be destroyed.
