By Tom Stanton Mar 28, 2022 | 3:16 PM

A Lincoln elementary school was briefly evacuated Monday morning after reports of smoke in the building. Lincoln Fire and Rescue was called to Pyrtle Elementary around 10:20 a.m. An LPS spokesperson says there was smoke and an odor in the building.

Principal Kristen Finley issued this message to the families of Pyrtle students. “We want to make you aware that our students and staff are safe. We have used our Standard Response Protocol of Evacuate while the fire department investigated a report of smoke and odor in our building. After a thorough investigation it was determined the building was safe and our students returned inside after approximately 45 minutes”

Finley also said “I appreciated how our students remained safe, respectful and responsible during the evacuation. They did a great job of following adult instructions. I am also grateful for the quick response by Lincoln Fire and Rescue.”
