A Platte County jury returned a guilty verdict Monday evening in the trial of Felipe Vazquez. He was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of LPD investigator Mario Herrera near 33rd and Vine as officers tried to serve a warrant.
Herrera died from his injuries 12 days after being wounded. The jury got the case just before noon and deliberated for about 8-hours before returning the verdict.
Vazquez was 17 years old at the time of the shooting and the trial was moved to Platte County due to the extensive media coverage in Lancaster County. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 25th.
