A lot of smoke and flames could be seen coming west from the Pinnacle Bank Arena at 110 Q Street Wednesday afternoon. LFR’s Nancy Crist says crews found found a large grass fire around 4:00 and took immediate action.
“Shut down the railway because there is an east-west track and a north-south track that would have possibly been affected.” Southwest Rural Fire and the Air National Guard sent in grass rigs to get closer to the fire. LFR attacked the fire at several different points.
It took about three hours to get the fire under control Crist says about 20 acres burned. Several tents that were set up near People’s City Mission were destroyed, but there was no damage to buildings.
The cause isn’t known.
