A Lincoln man is sentenced in federal court to 224 months in prison after pleading guilty to gun and drug charges. U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced 28 year old John Allen Belot to 140 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 50 grams or more of a mixture containing methamphetamine, 60 months for use of a firearm during and in relation to and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, and 24 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute a mixture of methamphetamine or a substance containing methamphetamine while on pretrial release.
The sentences will run consecutively. after serving his time, Belot will be on supervised release for 5 years. There is no parole in the federal system.
On August 4th of 2020, law enforcement contacted Belot and two others in a vehicle in Lincoln. Belot was searched and investigators found a loaded 9mm pistol in his front waistband. The vehicle was searched and officers found suspected methamphetamine, various pills, methamphetamine pipes, and a digital scale. The drugs were sent to a lab for testing. The lab confirmed that the substance methamphetamine.
Belot was also in possession of methamphetamine and a firearm on February 17, 2020 and October 12, 2020 in the Lincoln area.
While on pretrial release in July of 2021, law enforcement arrested Belot on a federal warrant in Lincoln. Officers found a loaded .22 caliber handgun, 8.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a digital scale, methamphetamine pipes, and ammunition in his backpack. Officers also found 1.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine and $510 in currency on Belot.
The case was investigated by the Lincoln – Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force.
