An unscheduled home and home for Nebraska baseball added a tally to both the win and loss columns.
Omaha (5-10) won game one Sunday in Omaha 4-3 while Nebraska (5-9) took Monday’s contest in Lincoln by a score of 6-5.
In the first game, Husker starting pitcher Kyle Perry was chased off after 3.1 innings, leaving with just one earned run given up. Koty Frank took the hill in relief, going 5.0 innings. Frank struck out four, walked three, and gave up three runs, two of them earned.
The Huskers tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Still tied in the bottom of the ninth, the Mavs got a one-out double followed by an RBI single to walk-off the game.
Core Jackson had two of Nebraska’s three hits, including a home run. Jackson had the only three RBIs for Big Red.
Monday’s series finale was the Griffin Everitt show. The senior from Lincoln Southwest went 4-for-5 at the plate, including two home runs and the game winning walk-off RBI in the ninth inning. Everitt finished with four RBIs on the day.
Omaha did score the first two runs of the game, adding one in each of the third and fourth innings. Starter Shay Schanaman weathered the storm to go 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out six and walking four.
Despite the Mavs scoring runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to tie the game, Braxton Bragg pitched the final defensive out to earn the win.
Nebraska stays at home for two games in two days against New Mexico, beginning with Tuesday’s 6:35 pm first pitch.
