An alert bank manager stopped a 50 year old Lincoln woman from falling for a scam.
Around 3 p.m. on Thursday, the woman started getting calls from two individuals who claimed to be from the Lincoln Police Department. One stated they were Sergeant Gaston, who is not an actual supervisor with LPD.
The woman was told she had missed a court appearance and she had to pay a fine to avoid arrest.
The scammers directed her to withdraw $5,200 from her bank account and create an Apple Pay account to compete the transaction.
The bank manager recognized this was likely a scam and told the woman to not complete the request. The callers then became hostile and threatened to “cut” both the woman and the bank manager. The victim is not out of any money largely in part to the quick thinking bank manager.
LPD issues this reminder that no representative from LPD will ever call and request or demand money.
