Monday morning’s snowfall kept Lincoln street crews busy. Up to two inches fell overnight and created slick conditions that resulted in dozens of accidents.
LTU’s Maintenance Operations Manager Tim Byrne says crews started treating arterial, bus and school routes with granular salt pre-wet with brine around midnight Sunday and then moved into plowing operations. He says a little more snow than they expected fell, but there were no issues with their operation.
He says crews are now bracing for a potentially bigger snow fall later in the week. The National Weather Service says Lincoln could see 3-6 inches of snow from Wednesday evening into Thursday. “Make sure we have all of our equipment and materials ready. We will have our contractors on alert, make sure they’re ready to support us when and if needed.”
The contractors are responsible for clearing snow from residential streets. With more people in town this week for the girls and boys basketball tournaments Byrne is encouraging drivers to plan ahead and find off street parking. “Whether at your hotel or staying friends or family. The more vehicles that you can get off those on street parking that will help our crews be more efficient and get things cleared off better.”
