If you have an interest in severe weather, the National Weather Service is holding storm spotter training sessions across the region. Meteorologist Brian Smith says spotters play an important role when severe weather strikes.
“They can contact the National Weather Service office with reports, giving us information,” Smith says. “They can help out their community by offering to volunteer with emergency management spotting groups.”
Smith says he will cover a lot of topics during the 90 minute class. “What to look for, what are some of the warning signs before a tornado would form and also the safety for any type of severe weather hazard, whether it be lightning, hail, wind, flooding.”
Lancaster County’s training session is scheduled April 16 at 1:00. It will be held at the Lincoln Amateur Radio Club at 4420 NW 41st Street. The class is free and no pre-registration is not required. Smith says the class is appropriate for all ages.
