A Lincoln man is waiting with anticipation and hope to hear from his family in Ukraine. Mykhaioo Smyshoiaiev  KLIN News they are trying to flee the country to safety.

“They are not safe.  They are right now stuck in between two cities.  There is a curfew right now.  Nobody can move anywhere.”  Smyshoiaiev says the only country taking refugees now is Poland and they are helping with the evacuation.

He and other Ukrainians living in Lincoln will hold a prayer vigil on the north side of the north steps of the State Capitol Saturday afternoon at 1:00.  He’s hoping for a big turnout to show support for their families and friends who are in harms way.
