City Flag Celebration Held At Pinnacle Bank Arena

By Tom Stanton Feb 24, 2022 | 5:25 PM

City and community leaders and Lincoln residents gathered at the Pinnacle Bank Arena Thursday evening to celebrate the City’s new flag.  Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird was joined by Todd Ogden of the Downtown Lincoln Association, Jason Ball of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and flag designer Ed Mejia in a ceremonial flag raising ceremony outside the arena.

“This flag is a show of unity, of common identity,” Gaylor Baird says.  “When I look at the new flag, I see a beacon of light, I see a welcoming spirit, I see a place that is inclusive and I see a city that’s on the rise.”

Mejia’s design, “All Roads Lead to Lincoln,” was selected out of 190 entries submitted in the ReFlag Lincoln contest conducted in 2021 by the Lincoln Chapter of the American Marketing Association and Lincoln Young Professionals Group.   “This is not about left wing or right wing, it’s not about the past only.  It’s not just about the future and aspirations.  It’s really about a moment in time,” Mejia says.  “I hope that in the future when people look at the flag they think about the meaning of it.”
