Representatives from Nebraska have released statements regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer released the following statement today:

“Putin treacherously used diplomacy as a distraction, played games as he increased his military capabilities, and sowed false narratives. A sovereign nation has been invaded and innocent Ukrainians are being killed because of a despot’s imperial ambitions. The fundamental principles of security in Europe are in peril. President Biden must immediately lead a global response that cripples the Russian economy and isolates Russia diplomatically.”

Congressman Jeff Fortenberry made the following statement:

“Immediately after the Beijing Olympics, as if on cue, Russia invaded Ukraine. This brazen violation of another nation’s sovereignty should remind the entire world of ever-present dangers. Late-game sanctions after a failed Kamala Harris visit to Germany are not going to stop this determined aggressor,” Fortenberry said. “Here are some answers that can make a difference: 1. Immediate return to American energy independence; 2. Europe ends its dependence on Russian natural gas; 3. Europe reestablishes its will to properly burden share with NATO; 4. Arms for, and support of reform within, Ukraine,” Fortenberry added. “Only by reestablishing strength do we have leverage for diplomacy,” Fortenberry said.

Congressman Don Bacon commented on Twitter:

Thug Putin initiated unprovoked war of aggression to force Ukrainians, who want independence, to live under Russian domination. Russia is a pariah state & must be cut off economically & diplomatically. Bullies only respect strength so we must build up our defenses w/our Allies.
