Lincoln Firefighters had to battle flames, wind and brutally cold temperatures when they arrived at a home near 19th and Ryons around 5:30 Tuesday morning. LFR’s Nancy Crist says crews found heavy fire coming from the home.
“We went in with hose lines to fight the fire and we were able to get a search throughout the entire residence. We didn’t find anybody in there, but shortly thereafter there was fire breaching through the attic.”
Crist says firefighters were forced to move outside to fight the fire and encountered another issue. “There were several mature trees all around and as they were getting wet from the water, they were getting weighted down and we had to abandon any activity directly under those trees to avoid branches falling and injuring our firefighters.”
Crist says they also had to deal with a fire hydrant that froze and some slips and falls on the ice. The resident was not home at the time and no injuries were reported. The house is a total loss and the cause is under investigation.
