Lincoln Parks and Recreation announced that carts will be unavailable for use on City golf courses from February 27th through March 13th due to extremely dry turf conditions.
Golf Course Maintenance Coordinator Casey Crittenden tells KLIN News, “We are going to restrict carts for that time period. During that time frame, typically, that turf will just start to come out the end of first week or second week in March. You may have to dig a little bit but typically you can see that. We are hoping to mitigate any damage or more damage to the turf by not allowing carts out. Obviously that will reduce the number of golfers and that will reduce the stress. Golfers will still be welcome.”
Grass on the courses is suffering from lack of moisture due to the warmer and dry winter weather. Early March is a critical period to protect the growth of grass. Restricting carts could minimize possible turf damage and reduce the need for costly and time consuming repairs. They are watering as much as possible to rehydrate grass crowns and restore moisture levels.
