Restaurants, bars, and clubs are always busy on Valentine’s Day but many are just as busy on February 13th. That is National Mistress Day, a day when a cheating spouse plan to see their other person.
Lifestyle expert Laura Carranza tells KLIN News Ashley Madison did a survey of 1,600 men about Valentine’s Day. Thirty-percent said they would take their other partner out on the actual day but most preferred to take them out on the 13th and spend the 14th with their wife.
The most popular gifts for the mistress are traditional diamond jewelry and lingerie while wives get chocolate and teddy bears. Flowers are another popular gift and Carranza says there have been occasions when a man has placed two delivery orders. Things take a turn when the wife receives the one intended for the mistress. She says men typically spend the same or more on the mistress than they do their wife.
Carranza says February is also a busy time for private investigators. She says, “People really began to see what is going on between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. Women or men will start getting a finger on the pulse and hire a PI to follow.” She says some tips to look for to see if the husband or wife are cheating include the hiding of the phone, not knowing the security code to the other person’s phone, smells like perfume and is constantly late. The biggest tip-off is the credit card bill. If there are charges to an expensive restaurant right around Valentine’s Day or a charge to a jewelry store and the wife didn’t get get a little velvet box, there could be something going on.
February 13th is a popular date because after Valentine’s day the other person may feel like an afterthought. The cheating spouse typically comes up with the excuse they have to work late on that day but will make it up to the other person on Valentine’s Day with a special night out.
Carranza says it isn’t uncommon for men to take the other woman to a restaurant on the 13th and then return the next night with their wife. She has talked to wait staff who say it is always difficult to keep the game face on and proceed as if nothing had happened.
Carranza says this could be a different year with the championship game falling on the 13th as men could have legitimate plans with other friends.
