Several agencies responded to reports of a small plane crash around 8:15 Thursday evening near 112th and Havelock. “It ended up being a small airplane that suffered a mechanical issue and wasn’t able to make it to the Lincoln Airport,” says Lancaster County Sergeant Mike Hipps.
He says the pilot and passenger were able to deploy the plane’s parachute and make the crash landing in a field. Neither one of them was injured.
In addition to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Lincoln Police, Waverly Fire, The Nebraska State Patrol, Southeast Fire and Rescue and the Lancaster County Health Department responded to the scene.
The FAA is investigating the crash.
