Starting Monday, February 7th, Nebraska Medicine will gradually resume surgeries and other procedures that were delayed during emergency operations. A Crisis Standards of Care plan was activated on January 13th. That move was due to the surge in Omicron variant of COVID-18. There was a high demand for hospital beds and a large number of staff absences due to staff becoming ill, waiting for test results, or caring for ill family members.

There has been an overall decrease in virus admissions in the past week and the number of staff members in isolation and quarantine has also decreased. That is allowing Nebraska Medicine to move out of crisis operations.

Patients who had procedures and appointments postponed will be contacted. Work is underway to reschedule as quickly as possible

The health system will return to contingency operations. Changes may still be needed when it comes to clinical space and practices to meet the demand for patient care. Their hospital census remains high and the Omicron variant continues to be a threat to the community.

Nebraska Medicine asks patients and their families to continue to be vigilant by wearing high quality masks, practicing good hand hygiene, avoiding crowded places, and getting vaccinated or a booster when eligible.
