A man and woman accused of leading Cass County authorities on a chase ended up in custody after their car ran out of gas. The sheriff’s office says around 5:30 Wednesday evening a deputy spotted a vehicle with fictitious plates near 10th and Main in Plattsmouth.

Sheriff William Brueggemann says  the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver hit the gas and took off at a high rate of speed. The driver turned northbound on Highway 75 and continued into Sarpy County.  The Nebraska State Patrol was called and tried to put down stop strips to deflate the tires near the new Highway 34 and Highway 75, but it was unsuccessful.

Brueggemann says the vehicle ran out of gas on Highway 75 and Fairview Road.  NSP and Cass County Sheriff Office Deputies took the female driver and male passenger into custody.

The sheriff’s department says 47 year old Gail Tierney of Council Bluffs had two prior counts of flight to avoid arrest and was driving on a revoked license. Tierney was booked on felony flight charges and other traffic offenses.

The passenger, 40 year old Desi Leroy Chamberlain of Omaha had an active Cass County warrant and was found to be in possession of meth, baggies, scale and other drug paraphernalia and was booked on several felony drug charges.
