Two men are accused of trying to cut a catalytic converter from a vehicle at an apartment complex in the 5500 block of Salt Valley View. Around 4:30 Wednesday morning a witness reported seeing two men trying to cut off a catalytic converter from a vehicle.
The witness confronted the men, who fled in a red Buick Century. Sergeant Chris Vigil says the pair were unsuccessful in fully removing the converter, but there was $200 in damage to the victim’s car.
Officers located the red Buick Century a short time later near 36th and Adams. It was occupied by a 26-year-old Nicholas Fynbu and 31-year-old Diego Barcenas. Both were positively identified as the men who attempted to remove the catalytic converter. Police say they also had multiple reciprocating saws in their vehicle.
Both were cited and released for Attempted Theft.
