The Nebraska State Patrol says a man who was involved in a standoff with law enforcement in Adams was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Just before 10:00 Monday night the Gage County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the NSP SWAT Team in response to an ongoing situation on Elm Street in Adams. Deputies had previously responded to a domestic violence incident after receiving a 911 call from the victim.
The victim reported that her husband, 40 year old Thomas Sharp, had hit her several times and pointed a gun at her. The patrol says when she pushed the gun away, Sharp man fired the weapon, striking her in the hand. She and her children were able to flee and get out of the home safely.
The NSP SWAT Team made numerous attempts to contact the suspect, but were unsuccessful. The SWAT team then used a light armored vehicle to open the front door. A short time later Sharp was found dead inside the home, putting an end to the nearly nine hour incident.
The victim was transported to Bryan Medical Center West Campus in Lincoln for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The children are with family. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln Fire and Rescue assisted the Nebraska State Patrol.
